Our Tutoring Plus programme

For pupils facing more complex challenges than their classmates, our Tutoring Plus programmes combine academic support with a focus on the whole child through one-to-one support.

We offer a range of Tutoring Plus programmes which are open to all, and most commonly used to support:

• Cared for children
• Those attending Alternative Provision
• Persistently absent pupils or those with poor school attendance
• Students who could use support with emotional wellbeing
• Pupils who would benefit from a positive role model

For those just wanting 1:1 academic support for pupils, particularly those who may have substantial learning gaps from having missed school, we offer 1:1 programmes with our trained Tutoring Plus tutors. This is available for primary and secondary pupils across Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Merseyside and Tees Valley. We also work with some young people post-16, particularly those resitting GCSE exams.

We know that Tutoring Plus can make a difference. In the last academic year, pupils who were identified as severely absent receiving tutoring through Tutoring Plus had:

• A mean school attendance of 26% 
• But a mean tutoring attendance of 72%

We also offer some more tailored programmes that combine academic support with other provision to boost confidence, social or emotional wellbeing and develop life skills. Read on to find out more about the options available:

Time for Me

Time for Me is a tutoring and mentoring programme run by our specialist Tutoring Plus team. It offers one-to-one support that encourages children and young people to develop their learning confidence and resilience. The programme offers support for pupils in Years 7-11.

Each pupil receives 18 hours of support, including six hours of one-to-one mentoring and 12 hours of bespoke one-to-one tuition in either English, maths, or science. Impact is measured using baseline and endpoint tests, pupil voice, and the Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale.
