M6 Theatre have been based in Rochdale since 1977 and have worked with secondary schools through delivering short powerful plays such as Clueless, Hench and The Storm as well as working together on drama projects Wherever The Road Takes Me. For more information visit our website.
M6 Theatre’s strand of work for audiences aged 13+ is designed to confront some of the biggest challenges young people are facing by utilising the unique learning tool of high quality, engaging and informative theatre to create a forum for them to share their views, and to talk and learn from each other.
Following these consultations, M6 have taken the insights and developed an age-appropriate participatory theatre-led workshop called The Incident, which uses professional actors and a skilled facilitator to give students the opportunity to observe 2 young characters as their romantic relationship develops in a number of short scenes. Following each scene, the students will be given the opportunity to scrutinise the pressures the characters are under and discuss how they are feeling and behaving.
The workshop has been designed to nurture empathy and respect, build allyship and rebalance a harmful culture that is impacting young people’s relationships, offering a chance for students to talk with each other about what healthy behaviours look and feel like, building self-esteem, confidence and autonomy.
M6 are now taking bookings for a tour in February 2025. Dates currently available are: Mon 3 Feb, Wed 5 Feb, Thurs 6 Feb, Wed 12 Feb, Thurs 13 Feb, Fri 14 Feb.
Feedback from participants:
‘I want to watch this every night on Netflix’ Year 9 pupil
‘We need to normalise talking about things like this’. Year 10 pupil
‘Well, I loved that. It’s really important for it to be out there. We have to call them (the boys) out all the time at youth club for what they say. All the time’ Participant,16
Feedback from staff:
‘I was going to do some work, but I just had to join in. This is a really quiet group, so I’m amazed that they warmed up so well. I really enjoyed participating myself’ Teacher
‘Thank you all for coming on Monday, it was a great performance and the feedback from the young people has been really positive. They’re already asking for you to come back and perform again. It’s also sparked some brilliant conversations for our healthy relationship sessions.’ Youth Support Worker
The workshop is completely free of charge.
